YWS Initiatives

Young Woman Scientist (YWS) Initiatives is a series of programs organized by The Association of Korean Woman Scientists and Engineers (KWSE) to empower the next generation of women in STEM. Through research, networking, mentoring, and cultural exchange, participants gain new experiences, build global connections, and develop the skills and confidence to become future leaders.

Young Woman Scientist Global Webinar

Present your research, exchange ideas, and discuss how your work can contribute to solving real-world challenges

Who can apply?
• Female STEM undergraduate and graduate students
• Female researchers within three years of earning their highest degree

Awards
• 1st Place – NST Chairperson's Award + KRW 1,000,000
• 2nd Place – KWSE President's Award + KRW 500,000
• 3rd Place – KWSE President's Award + KRW 300,000

Application Period: Applications open every April

Smart Sister Program

Turn your ideas into action with a student-led team project. Design academic and cultural activities, collaborate across disciplines, and build meaningful connections with your teammates

Who can apply?
• Undergraduate and graduate students majoring in STEM
• Open to all nationalities and genders

Program Support: Up to KRW 1,000,000 per team

Application Period: Applications open every February

Smart Sister Mentoring Program

Connect with experienced scientists and engineers who can support your academic journey, career planning, and life in Korea.
The program helps international women in STEM navigate research, higher education, and career opportunities while building a strong professional network.

Who can apply?
• Mentees: Female undergraduate and graduate students majoring in STEM in Korea
• Mentors: KWSE members or int’l women scientists and engineers based in Korea

Program Support: Mentoring grant up to four sessions
